We began working with Glendale in 2013 to help develop the infrastructure and green space management required to improve the tennis facilities in Lewisham’s parks.
Together we have helped increase participation which has been recognised with the investment in the local courts.

The London Marathon Foundation supported a combined bid with the LTA and Lewisham Council in 2017 that enabled the refurbishment of the tennis courts in four parks venues – Ladywell Fields, Manor House Gardens, Mayow Park and Sydenham Wells Park.
The ambition of the London Marathon Foundation is to inspire activity and its vision is a society in which everyone is physically active, contributing to their health and wellbeing.
We’ve had a very close working relationship with the LTA since 2013, running new initiatives such as Tennis Tuesdays, Cardio Tennis and Tennis Xpress which are now key parts of our current programme.
All of our coaches are LTA accredited and are supported by the LTA in their continued professional development.
Our partnership with Lewisham Council started in 2011 when we ran free tennis in schools.
Since 2013 we have run a Community Tennis programme in the Lewisham Parks.
Play Tennis Lewisham was formed following investment by the LTA, London Marathon Trust and Lewisham Council into the refurbishment of Ladywell Fields, Manor House Gardens, Mayow Park and Sydenham Wells Park tennis courts in 2017.
We have run Health and Wellbeing sessions in partnership with Sporting Recovery since 2021.
Sporting Recovery’s community based exercise programme is for adults who have or who are experiencing challenges that impact their mental health.
Their Wellness programmes run in Lewisham, Lambeth and Southwark and the Wellness Centres provide a pleasant, stigma-free atmosphere where you can participate in team and individual sporting activities.
The Lewisham programme consists of tennis, gym club and yoga.
Kate is a local (Sydenham based) life coach who, like us, is passionate about the benefits of spending time outdoors. You’ll find Kate in many of the same park spaces as the South East London Tennis team.
